With the points for science in UCD now I wouldn’t of got in, and I’m halfway through a PhD in chemistry at the minute (says it all really! ). But realistically the grade system is the only way we can do it based on supply and demand for university places.

Ironically I wouldn’t have got into the course I did do but would have got into what I wish I had done due to the points for that course dropping.

Looking at the points for science at NUIG, 140 extra needed to study biomed science which gets you…..restrictions on 2nd year subject choices but no quotas on the on small class size subjects like anatomy, physiology and pharmacology. A real triumph of marketing over reality.

How is it fair that a theoretical physics course in trinity in he last 3 years, has increased by 50 points, then dropped by 45 and now increased by 50 again? That’s massive inconsistency and so frustrating, and I’m only going in to 6th year.

T.P. is always a small class, so a small difference in the number of applicants will cause a swing in CAO points.

Hey Maura, sorry about that – it’s been fixed so you should be able to see them now. *puts toolbox away*

Huge jump in points for science courses – the same way there is a fall in construction/property related courses. Surely people are not making short term ‘job’ decisions and picking what long term career they actually want?
