Car hijacked, set alight during Craigavon disturbances

PSNI investigating public disorder incidents in the early hours of this morning.

POLICE IN LURGAN are investigating an incident in which a car was hijacked in the Craigavon area early this morning.

The PSNI says that officers were responding to a report of suspicious activity in the Ardown area shortly before 1am when they were attacked by a crowd throwing bricks and bottles.

A Vauxhall Astra car was hijacked on the Monbrief East Road and set on fire at a roundabout. The car was completely destroyed.

The crowd dispersed before 4am but police remained in the area for a time afterwards to monitor the situation.

Officers are appealing to anyone who may have any information about the incident to contact them in Lurgan or the independent Crimestoppers charity confidentially.
