“WE’RE LIKE A big family, really,” says Tim Barry, who has worked in the manufacturing industry in Castlemartyr, East Cork, for 27 years.

Tim works as Head of Production at Cash & Carry Kitchens, moving his way through the ranks since he started out sweeping floors in the factory in 1993.

“Our factory sits on a nine acre site, with seven warehouses making up 130,000 sq ft. It’s just under half a kilometre from front to back, so I’ve no problem getting my steps in every day,” he says.

Cash & Carry Kitchens have been designing and making kitchens in their Castlemartyr factory for over 40 years, with 26 staff employed across the board there.

“Most of the team here are local to Castlemartyr or the surrounding towns. The vast majority of our staff would have over 20 years’ experience each. One man, Martin, has been here for 40 years.”

“When I started here in 1993, any of the big warehouses didn’t exist. I look at it now when I’m walking half a kilometre through the place and it’s amazing to think how much happened in a few years. One thing that’s always stayed the same, though, is our quality.”

So, what actually goes into making a kitchen? “Every customer’s order is unique,” explains Tim. “We manufacture each kitchen specific to their individual requirements.”

Accuracy is hugely important to what we do. Being even a quarter of a millimetre out can have big implications on the next step of the process

From receiving measurements from the showroom to making a computerised 3D design, to the final quality check before the kitchen is sent to the customer, Tim takes us through the process in this video.
