Cash stolen in armed raid on security van in Drogheda

The cash in transit vehicle was targeted by four men this morning who fled the scene with a cash box.

AN INVESTIGATION has been launched after a gang of armed men stole a quantity of cash from a security van in Drogheda, Co Louth this morning.

Four men were involved in the raid, according to gardaí.

Two of the gang approached a security van worker and threatened him with a shotgun at around 11.15 this morning at an industrial estate in Drogheda.

The four men took a cash box which contained an undisclosed quantity of cash and fled the scene in a red car with a 97 D registration plate. The car was recovered a short time later  at Knightswood estate outside Drogheda.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who may have any information about the incident to contact them at Laytown Garda Station on 041 981 3320, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any garda station.
