This man was caught on CCTV spraying the victim with acid. Met Police

Appeal for witnesses after London delivery driver sprayed with acid

The victim was attacked through the window of his car.

METROPOLITAN POLICE ARE appealing for witnesses to an acid attack on a delivery driver in London in May.

Detectives in Tower Hamlets have released CCTV footage of the incident where a 21-year-old man had a corrosive substance sprayed in his face outside a residential address in Dane Place, Bow.

The incident happened around 6.20pm on Tuesday, 2 May.

As the victim entered details into a sat-nav in his car, the suspect approached him on a bicyle and demanded money.

When the victim said that they didn’t have any, he was squirted in the face with a chemical that smelt of ammonia.

The suspect tried to open the locked driver’s door and eventually got in through the passenger’s seat as the victim tried to wipe the substance off his face.

He suffered burns to his face.

The suspect is described as a white youth who was wearing a black hooded top, blue jeans, black shoes and a grey/green snood. He was on a black hybrid bicycle.

Once the suspect cycled off, the driver ran into a nearby takeaway and called the police.

London Ambulance Service attended the scene and took the victim to an east London hospital. He was later discharged and police say his injuries are not life-changing.

Detectives from the Tower Hamlets criminal investigation department are investigating the attack.

“This was a horrible assault on a takeaway delivery driver in the early evening. Witnesses were in the area and saw the assault. We are asking them to come forward and help us with our enquiries,” Detective Constable Paul Clarke, the officer in the case from Tower Hamlet, said.

Met police say there have been no arrests made and enquiries are ongoing.

Anyone that can assist in the investigation is asked to contact the Tower Hamlets criminal investigation department on 101 or by tweeting @MetCC. To give information anonymously contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
