Central Bank appoints new Chief Economist

Lars Frisell, who previously worked for the European Central Bank, will take up the role in June.

THE CENTRAL BANK has named Lars Frisell as its new chief economist and director of economics.

Frisell, who is from Sweden, has been chief economist at the Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority since 2009. He is due to take up the new role in June.

He holds a PhD and a Masters in economics from the Stockholm School of Economics, a Masters from Northwestern University in Illinois, and a degree from HEC de Paris.

He has also worked at the Swedish Central Bank and the European Central Bank.

“Lars will bring a wealth of knowledge and insight to his new role in the Central Bank,” Patrick Honohan, Governor of the Central Bank said today.

“He has a wide range of experience in economic policy and financial stability and is a key appointment for the Central Bank at this time”.
