Channel 5 "confirms Big Brother to return"

Formal announcement expected to come in next day or two – with suggestions that Charlie Sheen might be approached for celebrity version in August.

BIG BROTHER FANS – prepare to lose your August to a new series of the reality show. The Guardian has reported this evening that Channel 5 have confirmed that the celebrity version of the show will be screened on the station this August.

A formal announcement from Channel 5 is expected in the next day or so, according to the Daily Mail. Negotiations between the programme producer Endemol and Channel 5 have been ongoing for months and the delay will mean that it will be late summer before it could appear on TV screens.

Celebrity Big Brother would possibly run for the month of August, followed by the “civilian” version in September for 13 weeks.

The British Daily Star Sunday has suggested that the show’s producers may have their eye on controversial actor Charlie Sheen to star in the celebrity version and that Mohamed al-Fayed was also going to be offered money to appear on the show. Sound outlandish? Don’t be too quick to write off the claims – the Daily Star Sunday is owned by Richard Desmond… who also happens to own Channel 5.
