Evans, a professional footballer, was convicted of rape in 2012 and was released during the week. Immediately, it prompted stories of clubs preparing offers for the striker.
Sheffield United, Evans’ club at the time of his conviction, were tipped to be ready to offer him a deal. However, their owners called those reports “false and damaging to the club”.
Opinion pieces in papers are divided this weekend, with some arguing that returning a footballer to his position would be disrespectful to rape victims, but others saying that he has served his time.
