Child, 2, survives on Easter eggs for days after mother dies

The girl may have been alone in the house for up to five days.

A YOUNG CHILD left alone in her Australian home after her mother died survived for up to five days on Easter eggs before being discovered by a local preacher.

The two-year-old girl was admitted to hospital suffering severe dehydration after she was discovered at the house in Ashmont near Wagga Wagga, the Daily Telegraph reports.

The alarm was raised by a concerned neighbour who contacted the local church, prompting a local pastor to enter the home and check on the situation.

One ambulance worker said the child appeared in shock and close to death when they arrived on the scene. However, a health official told the AAP that the toddler is making a good recovery but will remain closely monitored in hospital, the Herald Sun reports.

It is understood that family members have travelled to the area to be with the child.

A post-mortem will be carried out on her mother’s remains to determine the cause of death, but it is suspected that the 36-year-old suffered a seizure.
