Sit up and take notice: 6 statement sofas for a living room that stands out

From supple leather to dramatic colourful velvet, these sofas offer stylish inspiration.

BUYING A NEW sofa is a big commitment. Aside from the cost, which can be bigger than most home purchases, finding one you truly love is no easy task.

It’s even harder if you aim to shake things up a bit and make your new big ticket purchase the star your living room. Statement sofas come in so many shapes, sizes and colours, so where do even you begin?

This week, we’ve searched high and low on Instagram for six of our favourite sofas that are sure to spark some inspiration – and let you say a final farewell to your boring seating arrangement.

Opt for leather@homebyp’s brown leather couch complements the pale green shade used on the walls and really creates a focal point in this nature-inspired sitting room. She balances the couch’s smooth finish with a tactile rug. As it’s easy to wipe clean, leather is a godsend for pet- or kid-filled homes, too.

Just jewel tones: Sofas that are upholstered in rich jewel-like tones are sure to draw the eye and really pop against a plain white backdrop. We love how @burbeckinteriors creates simple symmetry through cushions, frames and side tables, letting everything revolve around this midnight blue couch.

Smart sectional: A statement sofa doesn’t have to be loud when it comes to colour. Instead, invest in a room-commanding sectional that will create the same effect and ensure plenty of room to spread out. @lena_living sticks to a neutral palette but creates slight contrast with this large, light grey model.

Choose a big name: If you’re in a position to really invest, then look no further than ranges designed by well-known names like Missoni. @yuri_ebihara shows just one way you can rearrange this classic Missoni number from Roche Bobois, but the beauty of the model is that you can play around with size, shape and colour to suit any space.

Add drama to the dark: Pops of colour against an otherwise dark background will always create an impact. Eniko from @mydarkhome embraces the pink and green trend and keeps things cosy with deep seats and plenty of cushions.

Add some luxe with this Scott Velvet sofa in green from Made.com. Find a similar pink sofa at DFS.

Autumn and beyond: Colours like orange and light brown will keep you company all year around, remaining bright for summer but bringing a certain warmth to winter. Here, @dun_aluinn gets composition and sizing just right to fill this light-drenched space with a designer sofa that offers outdoor views from all angles.

Add a pop of brightness with this orange Tufty-Too sectional designed by Patricia Urquiola for B&B Italia. You can find B&B Italia products at Living Space.
