Last minute Christmas gifts the homebird in your life will love

These shops are open today across the country, but don’t leave it too late!

HAVE YOU LEFT your shopping till the last minute? Do you still need to buy a present for the homebird in your life? Well, fear not. Ruth O’Connor has done the hard work so you don’t have to. Here are some last minute gift ideas from shops and studios that are open today. Just don’t leave it past about 2 or 3pm or you’re really pushing your luck!

If you’re in Dublin then pop up to the third floor of the Powerscourt Centre where you’ll find the Design Collective – a pop-up store founded by Jane and Ruth Flanagan of Style Ignite Studio. The collective features a curated selection of female-led Irish businesses including Amurelle who create the soft and comforting bed linen pictured here. On the home front you’ll also find Amber+Willow, Tidings, artist Ciara O’Neill and Somas studio. Find them over on Instagram @design_collective

If you’re out West and still have some last minute gifts to grab then Foxford is open until 2pm today where you’ll find a huge range of beautiful blankets and throws, Irish designed bed linen and lots of Irish-made candles, goodies and Foxford’s own bath salts made in collaboration with Clarke’s of Dublin. Speaking of beautiful blankets and throws, how cool is this one by Cushendale whose studio is open today for last minute shoppers. Pictured below is their extra large Boher mohair throw (137 x 203cm) which comes in a range of colours to suit all tastes. You’ll also find their luxurious products in lots of stockists nationwide including Irish Design Shop Dublin which is open today.

With ‘Manifest’ the word of the year according to the recent announcement by Cambridge University, we’re manifesting this handmade porcelain ‘Manifest’ artwork by Orla O’Regan, aka Orla O Visual, for our Christmas list. You can’t go wrong with really nice Irish linen tablecloth as a gift and when it’s from a heritage Irish company like Magee then all the better. This set of cups and saucers was designed to complement The Gallery in Dublin’s Westbury Hotel in which their elegant afternoon tea is served. There are lots of Poolbeg Chimney themed items on the market these days – from wall art to tea towels but we particularly like these cute little salt and pepper shakers by Born & Bred featuring the capital’s iconic landmarks. Available from Designist, George’s Street, Dublin 2 where you’ll also find lots of other cool and quirky gifts including smart moon lights, gifts for gardeners and even clocks to tell the tide. 

Speaking of the tides we just love Niall Meehan’s Sea Studio calendar each year. The perfect gift for planners and sea swimmers it features beautiful photos of Ladies Cove in Greystones, The Forty Foot in Dublin, Coliemore Harbour in Dalkey and Magheramore, in Wicklow.  Today you can pick it up in April & The Bear Howbert & Mays in Dublin. €30.

If you’re in Waterford and looking for a last minute gift then you’ll be glad to know that the lovely people in Ardmore Pottery are open until 6pm, yes, 6pm today! Not only is this shop in probaly one of the most beautiful locations in the country, but it also has the most exquisite collection of prospective gifts from pottery (of course) to artworks, home textiles to candles, glassware to hand wash. Featuring the work of lots of terrific Irish brands including Inconsistent Machine (hanging planter seen here €52), Adele Stanley, Eddie Doherty and McNutt you’ll be spoiled for choice.

Back in Dublin where Elaine Fallon’s Brookwood Pottery will be open for customers stocking a range of gifting options from Brookwood’s own handmade cups, mugs, jugs and more to a lovely range of items including the print here by Sinead Woods, candles by Clean Slate and glassware by Jerpoint.

Want to hit up several shops at the last minute today? Then Kildare Village might be a good bet with lots of gifts available at stores such as Villeroy & Boch,  le Creuset and Home&Cook. These glasses from Villeroy & Boch normally retail at €83.60 but you’ll find them there for €56.
