4 events for... anyone who still hasn't finished their Christmas shopping

From markets to pop-ups, there’s something for every Christmas shopper.

CHRISTMAS IS JUST over ten days away meaning everyone is in a rush to get their last few bits together.

With that in mind, we have rounded up four events around the country that ought to be of interest to Christmas shoppers.

1. Strandhill People’s Market, Sligo

When: Day market, December 17th, 11am – 4pm / Night market, December 15th & 22nd, 5pm – 9pm

Where: Sligo Airport

Strandhill People’s Market is a thoroughly singular farmer’s market that takes place every Sunday under a sea of suspended umbrellas in the unusual environs of Hangar 1 in Sligo Airport. There are countless food and crafts stalls to feast your eyes and hungry belly upon.

In the lead-up to Christmas, there will be a special night market taking place every Friday from 5pm to 9pm as well as the usual market on the Sunday. Grab a hot chocolate, head to Sligo and get in the Christmas spirit.

2. Frost, Dublin 2

When: Until December 22nd

Where: Fumbally Exchange, 5 Dame Lane, Dublin 2

Tucked away on Dublin’s Dame Lane is a pop-up shop for the Christmas season aptly called Frost. The pop-up is hosted by the designer collective Fumbally Exchange and features goods from Irish designers and artists.

“Its been a magical experience showing a true collaboration of expertise (and some fun) of the Fumbally Family come together as one,” says Oisin MacManus who is managing the shop. “We have our main shop of over 20 designers plus a rotating zone centre stage that changes every few days offering tasty treats, workshops, and displays.”

Among the goods on offer are food stylist Jette Virdi’s homeware range, Melissa Doran’s dreamy prints and AAMcEvoy’s organic, gender-neutral baby clothes. Teeling Whiskey and Mór Gin have also been popping in and out.

A must-visit for anyone hunting for a unique, thoughtful gift this Yuletide season.

3. The Fair Alternative Christmas Market, Unitarian Church

When: December 14th to December 24th, 11am – 7pm

Where: Prince’s Street Unitarian Church in Cork

The Fair Alternative is a weekly market that takes place in the Prince’s Street Unitarian Church in Cork. The market sells handmade goods and locally sourced crafts. You’ll find everything from ríona‘s natural skincare products made in Carrigaline to Plepleple‘s cosy infinity scarves.

The Fair Alternative will host a Christmas market for ten days and it’s sure to be a one-stop shop for stocking fillers.

4. Dun Laoghaire Christmas Market

When: Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 7pm

Where: The Metals at dlr Lexicon

If you fancy a respite from the hustle and bustle of the city centre, the Dún Laoghaire Christmas Market comes as a welcome alternative. The Christmas Market on the Metals boasts scores of vendors selling handmade gifts as well as tons of mouthwatering food stalls. Hop on the Dart and you’ll be sipping Glühwein while walking around a winter wonderland in no time.
