Revenue officers at Dublin Airport seized 28,000 smuggled cigarettes yesterday – with the help of detector dog Frankie.
The cigarettes have a retail value in excess of €15,000, representing a potential loss of over €9,000 in taxes that would be paid to the Government.
The seizure was made when officers stopped and searched two passengers who had arrived on a flight from Frankfurt.
The passengers were questioned and a 24-year-old Moldovan woman was arrested. The woman was brought before Dublin District Court this afternoon, where Judge Halpin remanded her in custody.
She will appear in court again next Tuesday 8 November.
