Forget the selfie, take a trashy pic at the beach this weekend instead

People are being asked to spend a couple of minutes picking up rubbish today.

IT’S NATIONAL 2 Minute Beach Clean Day today and comedian Colm O’Regan has thrown his support behind it with a spoof environmental video.

In it he takes on the role of Benicio Sandz – “part-time philosopher, full-time human”.

Have a look. We think it’s pretty funny:

With the weather expected to be fine today, An Taisce is asking everyone who goes to the beach to spend two minutes cleaning up as part of its Clean Coasts programme.

Beach-goers can then take a photo of their clean-up and post it on social media under the hashtag #2minutebeachclean.

“The #2minutebeachclean idea is simple and inspiring. You just pick up a few bits of litter when you go to the beach, take a picture of the litter and post on social media, then put it in the bin, it’s as simple as that,” Clean Coasts manager Sinead McCoy said.

Every piece of litter removed from the marine environment is a piece of litter that won’t pollute our oceans or be ingested by marine life.

Happy beaching…
