Price comparison: What can I buy in Co Galway for under €500k?

From a two-bed in Oranmore to a six-bed in Tuam.

WITH PROPERTY ACROSS the country in such high demand, it can be really hard to get a sense of what your money will get you. 

That’s why each week, we cherrypick a number of homes in a precise location or county, to make things a little easier to digest. 

This week, we’re looking at properties around Galway with an asking price of €500,000 or less – from a detached home in Corofin to a semi-d on the Oranmore just outside the city.

Four-bed, detached, Corofin – €300,000

42 Castlegrounds is ready to walk into seeing as it can be sold fully furnished. Inside comprises a light filled hallway that leads to a sitting room that has a view of Corofin castle. Doors from here lead to a dining space/play area and ten links to the kitchen and utility room. A guest bathroom also completes the ground floor. The four bedrooms are upstairs, three of which are double with the main bathroom having an en suite. The remaining rooms share the family bathroom.  Parking to the front a roomy back garden make this a great family home.

The house is one of 42 houses just outside Corofin Village which is a 25 minutes drive from Galway City and has its own sense of community, plenty of schooling options and lots of sports to take part in. Claregalway, Lackagh and Tuam are all about a ten minute drive offering more amenities for families at all stages.

Two-bed, semi-detached, Oranmore – €225,000

Number 96A Renville Village is a home on the grounds of the Galway Bay Golf Resort in Oranmore. A safe a peaceful cul-de-sac location makes it a safe option for young families. Inside comprises a hallway, living room, kitchenette and a guest toilet along with two large double bedrooms that each have their own bathrooms. Two parking spots also come with the property and there’s a playground adjacent to the house

Four-bed, detached, Ballinasloe – €375,000

Spanning about 230 m², this bungalow in Ballinasloe is about a half an hour’s drive from Galway city and comes with under an acre of grounds. The site is elevated so it gets great views. Inside, the hall leads to the bright living room thanks to its double aspect. Then the open plan kitchen and dining space is a nice mix of natural wood and elegant grey tiling. Three double bedrooms are on ground floor with the main bedroom enjoying an en suite. A good sized utility room and spacious family bathroom completes the downstairs. Upstairs there are two more rooms, a bedroom and a space that would make an ideal home office or den.

A train station which has a regular service to Dublin and Galway is just two miles away. Schools at both levels are nearby and there is a handy school bus service that passes by the front door. The home already has a nice C1 BER but with a few affordable upgrades it could get higher.

Six-bed, detached, Tuam – €450,000

This large home is just a five minute drive from Tuam town. With six bedrooms and a home office, no doubt it would suit a large family with members who often work from home. With a floor space of 260 m², the rooms are large and full of light comprising a welcoming hall that leads to the open plan kitchen and dining space. It’s flooded with light thanks to the roof windows. You’re then lead to the sitting room with its marble feature fire place and solid granite hearth. A bathroom, a utility room and two bedrooms complete the ground floor.

Up the solid oak stairs you’ll come to the main bedroom which has a walk-in wardrobe and is en suite. Three more double rooms are located on this floor along with another family bathroom. The double garage to the back of the property could be renovated for even more accommodation if needed.
