4 events for... comedy fans who need a laugh this January

Beat those January blues with a good laugh.

 IF EVER THERE’S a time to go out and have a laugh, it’s in January.

As we near the end of the month, festive celebrations feel like they were a lifetime ago, we’re reminded that the next Bank Holiday isn’t until March and payday seems like a mirage that we will never grasp.

So what’s better to do than head out for a few hours and laugh alongside some of Ireland’s finest comedians? Ah go on, go on, go on… 

1. Father Ted at The Laughter Lounge

When: 31 January, 1 and 2 February

Where: Eden Quay, Dublin 1

It might not be Craggy Island, but Eoin McLove (Patrick McDonnell) and Father Damo (Joe Rooney) are coming to The Laughter Lounge for three nights of shows that no Father Ted fan would want to miss. There’ll even be a Lovely Girls competition, so put your glad rags on!

2. Foil Arms and Hog on tour

When and where: multiple dates throughout January and February around the country.

Comedy trio Foil Arms and Hog are bringing their new show Craicling around the country over the coming weeks, with belly laughs guaranteed from the start. If you’re not convinced, check out their Facebook page

3. The Brendan Grace Show

When and where: around the country throughout January

A Father Ted alumnus, Brendan Grace is bringing his solo show around Ireland throughout the month of January. His latest show features new material, as well as old favourites from the past 40 years.

3. Joanne McNally at Spirit Store 

When: 25 January

Where: Dundalk, Co Louth

Ahead of her performances at Adelaide Fringe Festival in February, Ireland’s self-titled comedy sweetheart is performing her new Gleebag show at Dundalk’s Spirit Store.
