Consumer protection watchdog opens investigation into anti-competitive practices by Dublin Port

The investigation centres suspected breaches of competition law in the provision of port infrastructure and port towage services at Dublin Port.

LAST UPDATE | 1 hr ago

THE CONSUMER PROTECTION watchdog has launched an investigation into suspected anti-competitive practices by Dublin Port Company.

The investigation centres suspected breaches of competition law in the provision of port infrastructure and port towage services at Dublin Port.

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) says these services are crucial for the safe navigation and operation of vessels, and therefore for the efficiency of trade and transport in the region.

“As the investigation is ongoing, the CCPC is not in a position to provide any further information at this time.”

Dublin Port handles about half of all trade in the Republic of Ireland.

It’s owned by the State, but is self-financing.

In a statement, Dublin Port said it acknowledges the investigation and is “fully committed to assisting the CCPC throughout the investigation”.

“As this is an ongoing matter, Dublin Port Company will not be making any further comment at this time. We remain dedicated to upholding the highest standards of service and compliance across all our operations.”

The CCPC is the statutory body responsible for enforcing and promoting compliance with competition, consumer protection and product safety law in Ireland.
