Poll: Do you eat too many sweets and crisps?

Be honest, now…

A REPORT RELEASED this morning shows the Irish shopper is rather partial to chocolate and crisps, with 12 of the Top 100 Brands being confectionery products.

Dairy Milk and Tayto are the 4th and 5th most purchased of any brand in Irish shops, with Walkers in 8th place, and a number of other sweets and crisps spread throughout the list.

We all know they’re not particularly good for us, and yet we seem to keep going back for more.

So, be honest: Do you eat too much chocolate, and too many sweets and crisps?

Poll Results:

Yes, I really should cut down (5553)
No, I'm comfortable with how much of them I eat (2950)
No, I never, ever eat them (477)

Read: Here’s what we buy most at the shops – but what’s Ireland’s favourite tea?>

I said that I’m happy with how much I eat but I tend to go through phases of eating nothing for a while and then binging for a while, I guess it balances out overall!

All food tastes good after a few smokes Paddy, as I’m sure you know only too well! If you’re smoking weed nearly every night then you just cannot keep eating chocolate and crisps every time – as delicious and all as they are. Most nights the munchies are satisfied by a nice sandwich, but on the other occasions I could go through numerous packets of Cheese Doritos, Twirls, Golden Crisps and Maltesers…Its like the scene from the Simpsons where Homer ends up in hell, and is force fed doughnuts and shows no sign of having enough!

I find that if you have one or two iced bottles of good beer when smoking it pretty much cuts out the munchies. It seems to keep the taste buds occupied.

Yes Paddy I’m quite fond of a few Erdinger myself with my spliffs, and the fact that I smoke cigarettes cuts down the rubbish-eating significantly. Mrs Vandelay on the other hand doesn’t smoke cigarettes and only drinks a glass of wine or water when we partake, so she’s gorging herself on chocolate before I burn my lips on the roach she’s just handed me…

Its hard to get 85 per cent cocoa. I buy green and blacks 70 per cent dark. Then put it in a smoothie with almond milk, chia seeds, strawberries, banana and protein powder. Yum! I can’t actually eat cadburys because of the effect it has of my teeth.

When I had a bad case of the flu 2 Christmases ago, I barely ate more than a slice or 2 of dry toast for 4 days. On day 5 I was starting to recover but still had no appetite, but figuring I should eat something I attempted to eat a few things. I ate some weetabix, tasted like cardboard. Tinned spaghetti – tasted like nothing. Buttered brown toast – tasted like carboard. even drank some coke which I’d normally love and it had no taste . Normally all these foods would taste fine. Then I ate a cadburys twirl and it was absolutely delicious! This illustrated to me that chocolate must be one of the most palatable and delicious foods for human beings, if it tastes good even when your immune system is trying to starve the flu virus out of you! I’d say I’m like many people in that I could give up eating crisps, sweets, ice cream, biscuits, takeaways etc..but that chocolate would be a painful one to never have ever again. I’d say I eat at least a bar a day. Fizzy drinks are my weakness though, really need to cut back on them ..
