Controlled explosion on device found outside Wright Venue

The army bomb disposal unit is called after a live explosive device is found outside the popular Swords nightspot.

THE DEFENCE FORCES were called last night to deal with a live explosive device found outside a popular nightclub in Swords.

The Army Bomb Disposal unit was called at about 1:30am, after the suspicious device was found under a Blue 4×4 Range Rover outside the Wright Venue, at the Airside Retail Park in Swords on the northern outskirts of the city.

The Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit arrived at 3:15am, and a controlled explosion was carried out on the device. The area was declared safe at about 4:45am, and the device was moved to a military compound for further analysis.

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses who may have seen anything suspicious in the area to contact the Swords station at (01) 6664700.

Nobody from the Wright Venue was available for comment when contacted.
