Gardaí investigating Coolock riot found 'incendiary devices' in aftermath

Seven glass and plastic bottles of various sizes containing flammable liquid were discovered.

A NUMBER OF incendiary devices were discovered last week by gardaí near the site of anti-immigration demonstrations in Coolock in Dublin.

Seven glass and plastic bottles of various sizes containing flammable liquid were discovered, alongside a number of empty glass bottles and rags. Plastic bottles containing a mixture of paint and oil as well as packets of water balloons were also recovered.

The find was made on Tuesday by gardaí investigating scenes of disorder that occurred the previous day outside the former Crown Paints site.

These searches were conducted in “grass areas in close proximity” to the site of the demonstrations, the Garda Press Office said.

“All of the incendiary devices and material seized has been sent for further technical examination and analysis,” it added.

A garda spokesperson said investigators are in the process of collating and harvesting CCTV and social media images from the events on Monday 15 July.

An incident room has also been established at Coolock Garda Station and a senior investigating officer has been appointed.

“An Garda Síochána wishes to acknowledge the significant volume of support received from the public to date including calls to Coolock Garda Station, the Garda Confidential phone number and receipt of images and videos from members of the public,” the spokesperson said.

It continued its appeal to anyone with any information on the events of last Monday or who has “any information on persons organising or involved in Monday’s events” to contact the Garda investigation team.

Any road users with camera footage who were on the Malahide Road or surrounding areas on Monday 15th July 2024, between 9am and 8pm, are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.

“Anyone who may have observed incendiary devices being gathered or persons in possession of such material is asked to come forward to Gardaí,” the appeal added.

The Garda investigation team can also be contacted at Coolock Garda station at 01 666 42000, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
