American wins 11th Cork City Marathon

Twenty four different countries and 47 nationalities were represented.

AN AMERICAN HAS won the Cork City Marathon in a time of 2:26:43.

San Francisco’s Chris Mocko claimed victory in a field of over 7,500 participants.

Mocko quit his job in Silicon Valley to run full-time. He was three minutes clear of the runner-up at today’s Irish Examiner Cork City Marathon.

David Mansfield was the first Irish runner to cross the finish line in a time of 2:29:20, while Cork’s Jill Hodgins was the first woman to cross the line in a time of  2:48:18.

Today marked the 11th Cork City Marathon. Twenty four different countries and 47 nationalities were represented.

Boston Firefighter Greg McCurtain, who is great grandnephew of former Lord Mayor of Cork Tomás McCurtain, carried his daughter Abby McCurtain who has Leigh’s Disease over the finish line.

Damien Coleman from Blackrock GAA breaking his own world record (4.28) of soloing with a hurley and sliotar coming in at 4.05.24.

Vincent Leahy crossed the finish line with his father Martin Leahy.

John Mullee, who broke the Guinness World Record for Fastest Marathon Dressed as a Star Wars Character, came in at 3.53:32 at the 11th Cork City Marathon.
