Cork syndicate almost missed out on EuroMillions cash with deadline just hours away

The syndicate leader waited 90 days to check the ticket.

A CORK SYNDICATE almost missed out on €381,863 after checking the winning EuroMillions ticket with just hours to go before the deadline.

The quick pick selection ticket was bought on 6 May, the day of the draw, in Tesco in the Market Green Shopping Centre in Midleton but the syndicate leader waited 90 days to check the ticket.

The syndicate collected their winnings at the National Lottery headquarters on Friday. Speaking from there, the syndicate leader breathed a sigh of relief as the cheque was handed over:

For the last couple of weeks, we have all heard the reports in the media but I never thought that it would be our ticket. Some of the members of the syndicate kept asking me to check all of our tickets and when I finally checked the ticket on Thursday, I just could not believe our luck.

He described how he came to the realisation that he had just hours to claim the EuroMillions prize after checking his ticket at 5.30pm on Thursday 4 August.

I checked the ticket in the Tesco store, where it was purchased. Initially, I thought we had two days left to claim the prize but the person who checked my tickets told me to contact the National Lottery as the deadline was only hours away.

“I made the phone call straight away and confirmed all of the details with them over the phone before we made our way up to National Lottery headquarters later that evening.”

He added, “I don’t think I would be allowed to run the syndicate again if I missed out on the deadline.”
