This Cork man took his taxi driver to a theme park because he had never been before

And his Abu Dhabi adventure is going viral all over the world.

MEET LIAM MURPHY.

The Cork man is currently out in the United Arab Emirates for a week as part of his job, and he’s become the toast of the internet thanks to a seriously generous gesture to a local taxi man.

Liam was on his way to the Ferrari World theme park in Abu Dhabi on Sunday when he sparked a conversation with his Indian taxi driver on the way. His name was Shakiha and Liam discovered that he was going to wait outside the park for the four hours it took to go around all the attractions.

So, Liam invited Shakiha to join him:

Shakiha had never been on a rollercoaster before – and Liam took him straight to the fastest one in the world

He paid for Shakiha’s ticket as well, which cost just over €60, and has won the heart of the internet in the process.

Liam tells DailyEdge.ie that he’ll be home to Cork this Thursday, and that if he’s lucky there might be a few pints in it for him thanks to his new found internet fame.

We wish him well in his quest.

The story and his epic soundness brought him on to Cork’s 96FM this morning and he told us a little about his new taxi friend:

He’s been working out there for 14 years – he’s from India originally, and he was sending his money home to his family. I got the pictures after going on it, and he refused to go on that one again. He wasn’t feeling well.

We can only imagine.

As Liam says on his Facebook post about his adventure:

Shakiha will sleep well tonight.

He will indeed.

Sound man Liam.

I enjoy an odd bet every now and then. The excitement you get when your horse is close to winning is fun.

It’s completely different with the Lotto. I never watch the draws. Buying that ticket gives you permission to daydream and imagine what you would do with a life changing amount of money.

I do understand that gambling can be very addictive. I don’t think people are going to lose their homes or jobs because of the lotto.

    @Father Spodo Komodo:
Of course they are forced, by huge spending on brainwashing advertising, and reducing the lower orders to a state of desperation through austerity cuts and unemployment, forcing people to smoke, abuse alcohol, eat bad cheap food, in their anxiety and desperation, and play lotto and other forms of gambling as a hoped for cure for,or just a much needed distration from, their hopeless situation. That,s if suicide doesn’t get them first. Age old tactics that the ruling classes have used for Millenia

@Paul Maher: probably taken by a newspaper photographer- they worked with b&w film as it’s much quicker/easier to develop than colour. Even though this wasn’t a fast-moving story, b&w would still be the chosen format.
