Here's how to keep up with your newly-elected council

You elected them, now pay attention to what they do.

THE VOTING IS done, the council’s are set and now the time to actually get something done is here.

The powers of councils are limited, but they can achieve a lot for citizens and a lot of important decisions are made from councils.

All of the councils across Ireland are required to publish the minutes of their meetings.

Some do this online and most are accessible to the public when they are on.

Across the board, annual meetings to elected Mayors and Cathaoirligh are held in June and budget meetings in November or December.

Here’s where you can find out more about your council:

Carlow County Council

Location: Carlow town, with civic offices in Tullow

Meetings: 2.00pm on the second Monday of each month in Carlow town

Open to the public: To attend, you need a pass which is available from any councillor. Councillors are given one pass per meeting.
