Couple fatally shot in Armagh

Police in Armagh have launched a murder inquiry after a man and a woman were shot in the head.

POLICE IN ARMAGH have launched a murder inquiry following the fatal shooting of a man and a woman in Craigavon, Co Armagh.

Police are playing down fears of a dissident republican motive behind the murders, after the couple were discovered in a flat in the Legahory Court area of the town after 6pm yesterday, RTÉ reports. The possibility that a criminal gang was involved in the attack is being investigated.

The victims, who both sustained gunshot wounds to the head, have been locally identified as Hugh McGeough, 56, and his partner, Jackie McCartney, 44, reports UTV.

Police have appealed to anyone who might have information about the murders to come forward.
