Man in court over murder of dissident republican in Kildare

Larry Keane, a father of six, was found close to his home in Athy last July after being assaulted. He died later in hospital.

A MAN IN his 40s is due in court this evening charged in connection with the death of a man in Kildare nine months ago.

Larry Keane, who was a well-known dissident republican and a father of six, was found seriously injured close to his home at St John’s Lane in Athy on 18 July last year. He was taken to Naas General Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

A post-mortem confirmed that he had died as a result of injuries sustained in an attack.

Gardaí in Kildare arrested the man in his 40s this morning in connection with the killing. He will appear before a sitting of Naas District Court this evening.
