Man (68) killed in two-car crash near Monaghan town

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the second car sustained minor injuries.

A 68-YEAR-OLD MAN has been killed after his vehicle collided with another car around two miles outside Monaghan town this evening.

The driver of the second car – a 58-year-old woman – sustained minor injuries and has been taken to Cavan General Hospital for treatment.

The crash happened on the N54 Monaghan to Clones Road at around 6.30pm.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene and his body removed to the morgue in Monaghan.

There were no passengers in either of the cars. 

A section of the road has been closed as forensic tests are carried out, and local diversions are in place.
