Gardaí to carry out searches and monitor 'prolific offenders' this weekend

They’re targeting crime in the Ashbourne area of Meath in particular.

GARDAÍ IN THE Ashbourne area of Meath will be conducting a number of searches and patrols between now and Sunday morning.

The operation began at 7am today and will continue until 4am on Sunday.

The two-day operation will consist of the following:

  • Searches (under warrant) under the Misuse of Drugs Act, with the assistance of the Regional Surveillance Unit
  • High-visibility checkpoints, assisted by the Regional Armed Support Unit
  • High-visibility patrols by regular units, traffic units and the Regional Armed Support Unit
  • Execution of penal and bench warrants
  • Plain-clothes burglary patrols
  • Public order beat patrols
  • Inspection of licensed premises
  • Monitoring of bail conditions of prolific offenders residing in the area
  • Engaging with the public on crime prevention, road safety and community policing

Local garda units including community policing units and detectives, assisted by the Regional Support Unit and the Garda Air Support Unit, are involved in this planned operation.
