4 events for... cyclists who love the great outdoors

Bike coast to coast or explore the Wicklow Mountains, and all for a good cause.

IF YOU’RE RARELY seen without your helmet and high-vis and favour two wheels over four, why not take your usual routine up a notch and participate in a cycle for charity?

From a 145km bike ride over two days to a 12-hour spinathon, one of these four upcoming Irish events is sure to get your heart racing, all while raising money for a good cause…

1. Cycle from coast to coast for Purple House

When: July 13 – 14, 2019

Where: Bray, Co Wicklow

Not for the faint-hearted, participants of this charity event will cycle the width of Ireland in aid of Purple House Cancer Support Centre. The route starts at Bray strand and covers 120km on the first day, before completing a further 125km on the second day and finishing in Strandhill, Co Galway.

2. Bike to Galway with Cycle4Haiti

When: May 25, 2019

Where: Dublin or Athlone

In its 10th year and open to all ages and cycling abilities, this annual event will see two groups pedal across the country from Dublin to Galway (208km) or Athlone to Galway (86km) over one day to raise money for the people of Haiti.

3. Cycle 100km through the Wicklow Mountains for AsIAm 

When: May 11, 2019

Where: Seapoint Rugby Club, Glenageary, Dublin

Kicking off at Seapoint Rugby Club, this 100km cycle will go through the Wicklow Mountains before looping back to the starting point in aid of AsIAm, an organisation which supports the autism community in Ireland.

4. Work on your stationary bike skills with a charity Spinathon

When: April 20, 2019

Where: Green Bar, Fairgreen, Borrisokane, Co Tipperary

Cycle for 12 hours (or less, if you wish) without going anywhere at Lower Ormond Cycling Club’s 12-hour spinathon in aid of Suaimhneas Cancer Support Centre and the Irish Heart Foundation.
