Cyclist (50) dies after being struck by car on motorway

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the incident, which occurred yesterday evening.

A CYCLIST HAS died after being struck by a car on a motorway in Dublin.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the crash, which occurred yesterday evening.

At approximately 5pm, a 50-year-old male cyclist was seriously injured when he was struck by a car on the southbound carriageway of M1 near Swords.

The collision occurred between junction four Donabate and junction three Swords.

The man was taken by ambulance to Beaumont Hospital. The occupants of the car were uninjured in the collision.

The motorway was closed for a brief period to facilitate emergency services but has since been reopened.

The cyclist was pronounced dead a short time ago in Beaumont Hospital and the coroner has been notified.
