67-year-old cyclist dies after being struck by car

The collision occurred at 11.30am this morning and gardaí are appealing for witnesses.

A 67-YEAR-OLD cyclist has died after a road collision in Mayo this morning.

The incident occurred at 11.30am at Knockakeery, Aughagower in Mayo. The male cyclist was fatally injured when he was struck by a car on a minor road.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and was later removed to Mayo General Hospital. The driver of the car, a woman in her 40s, did not require hospital treatment.

Gardaí said the road is closed to traffic and local diversions are in place. An examination of the scene by forensic collision investigators is continuing and the local coroner has been notified.

Investigating gardaí are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to contact Westport Garda Station on 098-50230 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.
