TODAY IS THE Irish Cancer Society’s 30th Daffodil Day.

To mark the day that seeks to raise awareness and funds, more than 2,000 volunteers will be selling daffodils, badges and pins.

Hundreds more are organising events like coffee mornings and cake sales in communities across Ireland to raise funds to support people affected by cancer.

According to the Irish Cancer Society, 150 people will receive a cancer diagnosis in Ireland on one day, and over 40,000 people will hear the words ‘you have cancer’ by the end of 2017.

The Irish Cancer Society aims to raise over €3 million on Daffodil Day to fund research and to provide information, care and support services to help those facing cancer.

Here are just some of the events that have been taking place across the country.

The Viking Splash boat is decked out in fresh daffodils and balloons outside the Gaiety Theatre from 10.30am to 5pm as part of the Daffodil Day celebrations.

Drogheda is turning yellow for Daffodil Day as businesses throughout the town will be adopting the shade of the daffodil for the fifth year in a row.

In Limerick, the Kemmy Business School in the University of Limerick is also hosting a special coffee morning to mark Daffodil Day again this year.
