• Gay Byrne has ruled himself out as the next president of Ireland, saying that said that he doesn’t feel the time is right for him to take part in the presidential campaign.
• An investigation is underway into an incident at Sligo General Hospital on Thursday, in which a doctor was allegedly attacked by another medic in the presence of a patient. The injured doctor was treated for an eye injury after allegedly being attacked by her colleague during a disagreement during rounds.
• Gardaí have warned parents in Meath of attempted abductions in the area. There have been incidents reported of a man exposing himself to young girls in Navan and Trim, and attempting to lure them into a car.
• New Zealand is calling for Irish construction workers to assist in the repair of buildings damaged in recent devastating earthquakes in Christchurch.
• A person suspected of dumping dozens of private medical records in a bin outside Roscommon General Hospital has been identified by the HSE. The health worker is now being questioned by the HSE over the incident.

• Germany has marked the 50th anniversary of the construction of the Berlin Wall this weekend. The victims of the Berlin Wall have been remembered at a ceremony marking the building of the divide – which Chancellor Angela Merkel, in unusually personal comments, has said had marked her “entire life”.
• US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has spoken of a “crescendo of condemnation” of the Syrian government and called for a global oil and gas embargo on the country - however she stopped short of an explicit call for President Assad to leave power.
• Libya’s rebels claim they have captured a strategic gateway on the road to Tripoli. The capital is currently under the control of Muammar Gaddafi’s forces.
• An American man has been abducted in Pakistan. The man, believed to be in his 60s, has been living in Pakistan for seven years and was abducted just days before he was due to leave the country.
• As the United State’s approaches the ten-year anniversary of the 11th September attacks on the country, journalist Tamara Lush writes in TheJournal.ie about the conspiracy theories that have emerged in relation to the tragedy – and why many still believe it was an inside job.

• Austrian man Alfred Zoppelt has claimed he was fired from his museum job in Vienna due to his devotion to ‘urine therapy’. Zoppelt said his superiors let him go, saying “you regularly rub urine into your skin, particularly the face and hands. With this, you soil your place of work … and threaten the health of your co-workers.” He claims that his adherence to urine therapy was previously “never a problem.”
