• A genetic test that could help women with breast cancer avoid having to undergo chemotherapy is not to be offered to public patients because it has been deemed too expensive. The test, Oncotype DX, has been available internationally for years but – at a cost of approximately €3,200 – it will only be offered to private patients in Ireland, the National Centre for Pharmacoeconomics has said.
• More than 30 people were injured when a double-decker bus overturned in Belfast city centre this afternoon. Nobody suffered life-threatening injuries in the accident, which occurred at 2pm on on the Albertbridge Road, however the bus driver had to be cut out of the vehicle by emergency workers.
• Northern Ireland’s Deputy First Minister has called yesterday’s violence in Derry “unacceptable” and challenged those involved “to come out and try and defend the incidents”.
• It has been revealed that a nine-year-old boy in Limerick was found with €1,500 worth of heroin last month, which he said he intended to swap for a horse. It is believed that the child, who is the son of a Limerick crime gang member, has now been sent abroad to live with relatives.
• A 46-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a stabbing incident in Letterkenny, Co Donegal, in which four people, including a Garda Sergeant, were injured in the early hours of this morning.
