This Victorian cottage in Dalkey is much more than meets the eye

This striking mix of old and new could be yours for €2 million.

ON FIRST APPROACH, Cliffside looks like an unassuming double fronted bungalow. But linger a little longer and it soon becomes apparent that this Victorian building is much more than a pretty facade.

Now a split level home, the bungalow was extended and completely refurbished in 2017. What sits in this Dalkey location with a quarry for a backdrop is a bright and airy 209 m² four-bed home with modern character in spades.

On the market for €2 million, Cliffside sits on a quarter of an acre that’s protected by electric gates and has a south facing and safe back garden.

The newer part of the house is home to the large and bright open plan sitting room and dining area, which opens out onto the back garden. From here, you get views of Dalkey Quarry.

The kitchen is a luxurious space that was designed for socialising in. A large island anchors the room and the appliances, as well as the abundance of storage, complements cooking skills at any level. This space benefits from a double height which grabs even more natural light.

While there is a family area that’s part of the split level dining and kitchen space, there is also a cinema room upstairs that looks over the back garden. This cinema room even has soundproofed wallpaper and is wired for a projector making it a perfect retreat for anyone who needs a break from the open plan space. Underfloor heating adds even more cosiness to this room.

The main social space downstairs is well zoned, however. These spaces are all part of the new extension, of course, so plenty of glazing ensures a lot of natural brightness.

The main bedroom has its own private access and opens out onto the patio that sits at the back of the house. It also has a walk-in dressing room and a an en suite bathroom with underfloor heating. One under bedroom has an en suite while the other bedrooms share the family bathroom. Right now, one of the bedrooms has been converted into a handy home office.

Fully landscaped, the garden is ready to be enjoyed and includes a patio with a built-in barbeque. Stairs are incorporated into a storage area that lead to the main bedroom in the house.

As for location, Dalkey may need little introduction for anyone house hunting on Dublin’s south side. Cliffside is just a walk away from everything the village has to offer, while the DART is just around the corner. Families will have their pick of schools in area and for those who love the outdoors, walks along the sea front and over the Killiney and Dalkey hills are bound to become part of Cliffside’s new owner’s daily routine.

Cliffside Ardbrugh Road Dalkey, Dalkey, Co Dublin is on the market for €2,000,000 through Lisney Sotheby’s International Realty (Dalkey).
