SAN DIEGO’S MAYOR has ordered a two-month nighttime shutdown of a beach after cameras set up to monitor a seal colony captured people kicking, punching and sitting on top of mother seals and their pups.
Mayor Bob Filner said in a statement yesterday that the La Jolla beach known as Children’s Pool will be closed between sunset and sunrise until May 15.
The 24-hour “seal-cam” was introduced in January and equipped with night vision so researchers and the public could watch the seals give birth during pupping season.
But the camera captured people abusing and harassing the seals and driving them from their resting places.
The beach has been the center of a long legal fight over human access versus seal protection.

People can be complete idiots! Last year at bullock harbour I saw a child who had caught some crabs in a bucket and one by one he was taking them out of the bucket and stamping on them. He and his parents thought this was hilarious. I took the bucket and threw the crabs back in the water. They didn’t find this hilarious as I had ruined his fun.

One day when the wildlife disapears from the earth because of their reckless and constant abuse by humans,they will mourn their loss, but by then it will be too late,in nature there is such a thing as natural justice,and that being the case as is fitting, they will be next.
Its pretty sick alright. Though it could be worse- down in Kerry they club them to death and the stick their decapitated heads onto the sign at the entrance of the seal sanctuary. Now that is truly sick.
