Today FM have signed a new D'Arcy to fill the D'Arcy shaped hole in their hearts

Fergal D’Arcy is joining the weekday schedule. Here’s who he is…

RAY D’ARCY HAS long since decamped to RTÉ.

But at Today FM, he’s certainly not forgotten…

Here’s how the folks at Marconi House chose to announce their latest weekday hire this afternoon:

Fergal D’Arcy (no relation, we’re assuming – although this being Ireland we’re probably all his distant cousins) will take over the 7-9pm weekday slot.

The presenter made his name on iRadio, the regional radio service founded by current 2fm boss Dan Healy.

D’Arcy’s been with the North East/North West station for eight years – most recently presenting the afternoon slot, between 3 and 6.

Previously, he was with Clare FM where he started his career as a breakfast presenter and producer.

He also picked up a radio gong at the industry PPI awards in 2008 for the Light Hearted Magazine Programme’.

Here’s the prepared comment from Today FM Chief Peter McPartlin:

We’ve been admiring Fergal’s on-air creativity for some time and I’m delighted that we’ve managed to get one of the brightest young talents on Irish radio onto Today FM.

And from D’Arcy himself:

I’ve always prided myself on being an ideas man more than a presenter, with this in mind a move to what in my opinion, is the most dynamic and creative station in the country, is a step in the right direction. Anyone that knows me ‘expects something different’ every time they see me …. I’ll fit right in.

Colm O’Sullivan, who has helmed the evening slot since 2013, is moving into a senior programming job at the station.
