DATING BACK TO the 1780s, Darraghville House in Kilcoole, Co Wicklow is a unique property with multi-purpose potential. While it’s in need of some modernisation, this seven-bedroom house has space and light in abundance.

Built by John Darragh, a former Lord Mayor of Dublin, Darraghville House (also known as The Convent) most recently served as a religious residence for the Holy Faith Sisters.

The property maintains many of its original period features and, as a result, is listed as a protected structure. These features include original sash windows, decorative plasterwork, high ceilings and period fireplaces.

Measuring a total of 3,714 sq ft over three levels, The Convent includes its own chapel on the ground floor, complete with varnished parquet flooring and stained glass windows.

Also on the ground floor is the drawing room, which features an original stone fireplace and sash windows, and the sitting room. Two offices complete the ground floor accommodation.

The country-style kitchen is located at basement level and comes with an AGA range cooker. There’s room for a table in here, but the dining room (located just off the kitchen) offers even more space. The original pantry is at this level, as well as storage rooms, coal bunkers and a bathroom.

Moving to the first floor, the most impressive room is located here. This reception room boasts a beautiful arched floor-to-ceiling sash window with views of the surrounding gardens, high ceilings, decorative coving and an original fireplace. There’s another sitting room, which is used as a meditation room, across the hall.

Seven bedrooms and a bathroom complete the accommodation.

Outside, one acre of grounds surrounds the property. This comprises a mature rear garden and a separate formal walled garden, both of which contain manicured lawns, flower beds and fruit trees. There’s also an enclosed yard to the side of the property that contains a range of outbuildings.
