A person has died after a crash in Cork this morning

Gardaí attended the scene of the crash between a truck and a car at around 5:40am.

A PERSON HAS died after a crash in Cork in the early hours of this morning.

Gardaí are now appealing for witnesses after the crash in Macroom at 5:40am.

A car and a truck were involved in the collision on the N22 at Lissarda.

The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene.

The occupants of the truck, both male and aged in their 30s, were uninjured.

The car was extensively damaged by fire and the process of identifying the deceased is ongoing.

The Coroner was notified and the remains have been removed to Cork University Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

A technical examination of the scene was carried out and the road has since reopened to traffic.
