Denis O'Brien received a lifetime achievement award for contribution to tech industry

The award recognises the “valuable contribution made by an individual to the growth of the technology industry”

BUSINESSMAN DENIS O’BRIEN has received a lifetime achievement award for his contribution to the technology industry.

The award was presented to the businessman at the Tech Excellence Awards, an IT business awards night organised by media communications organisation Mediateam.

So what was the reasoning behind the decision? When asked, the operations director for Mediateam, Billy Huggard, said the award recognised the “valuable contribution made by an individual to the growth of the technology industry over a long period of time.”

“[The award] is designed to recognise somebody who has successfully invested across the sector and lent their support, financial acumen and influence to bring about positive developments for the technology industry,” said Huggard.

He has extensive business interests in Ireland and internationally in several sectors including media, and technology… he has shown entrepreneurship and vision to encourage many others to compete locally and globally who otherwise may have felt the challenge was too great.

O’Brien is currently seeking an injunction against RTÉ to prevent the broadcast of an item that would be featured on RTÉ’s Six One News by business editor David Murphy. A ruling is expected to happen towards the end of next week.
