Man (28) arrested in connection with murder of woman in fire in Derry at the weekend

Montserrat Martorell Elias was killed when a fire broke out in an apartment she was in on Saturday, 24 August.

THE PSNI HAS said that it has arrested one person as part of its investigation into the murder of 65-year-old Montserrat Martorell Elias.

A man, 28, was arrested on suspicion of murder and taken to Musgrave Serious Crime Suite in Derry for questioning.

Detective Chief Inspector Anthony Kelly said: “Our investigation is moving at a fast pace, and I continue to appeal to anyone who may have any information to contact detectives on 101 and quote reference 225 24/08/24.”

Elias died as a result of a fire in an apartment in the Harvey Street area of Derry in the early hours of Saturday, 24 August. She was located in the bedroom of a downstairs flat.

Crews from the PSNI, the Northern Irish Fire and Rescue Service and the Northern Irish Ambulance Service responded to the fire.

The PSNI said that its investigation was ongoing.
