Carraig Donn design store announces 150 new jobs

Mayo-based retailer Carraig Donn is set to open 12 new stores and expand its operation online.

AN IRISH-OWNED DESIGN retailer has announced the creation of 150 new jobs as it expands from its Mayo base.

Carraig Donn, which manufactures and sells clothing, jewellery and homewares at 30 stores nationwide and via its online shop, is planning to open another 12 outlets over the next two years.

The company is based in Westport, Co Mayo. It also has stores in Galway, Dublin, Dungarvan, Carlow, Maynooth and Newbridge.

Mayo Fianna Fáil TD Dara Calleary welcomed the news, saying: “This is fantastic news not just for Westport, but for the Irish retail sector as a whole.  The Hughes family who run Carraig Donn have been a beacon of entrepreneurship in Westport and are valued employers right across the region.

“Given that the retail sector is going through a particularly difficult time at the moment. It is heartening to see a home-grown business doing so well, investing in new premises and creating jobs.”
