Bomb squad deployed after 'viable' homemade device found at Donegal home

Some homes in the area were evacuated while the device was made safe by a controlled explosion.

A HOMEMADE EXPLOSIVE device which the army says was ‘viable’ was discovered outside a house in Donegal this afternoon.

An Army bomb disposal team was called to the scene in Buncrana after the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was found. The team was deployed to the scene by an Air Corps helicopter following a request by Gardaí.

Some houses in the area were evacuated and a cordon was put in place while the device was examined.

A controlled explosion was carried out to render the IED safe.

Forensic evidence has now been handed over to Gardaí as part of their investigation into the incident.
