Device made safe in Lurgan

Residents were forced to evacuate their homes last night as PSNI officers worked to make a viable device safe.

POLICE IN THE North have confirmed that they have made a viable device safe in Lurgan, Co Armagh.

The PSNI said that the device posed a significant threat, and contained over 40 kg of explosives, RTÉ reports. A security alert was issued overnight in Lurgan, with residents from the Tullydagan Road area evacuating their homes, reports The Belfast Telegraph.

A police spokeswoman told the Telegraph: “We understand that the families are staying with family members.”

Meanwhile, a security alert has been lifted at Belfast International Airport.

PSNI officers gave the all-clear at 2am last night after examining a suspect vehicle parked in the airport’s long stay car park.
