Dick Roche eliminated as Wicklow count rolls on

Fianna Fáil TD has been eliminated following rechecks in Wicklow, where five seats have yet to be filled.

FIANNA FÁIL TD Dick Roche has been eliminated from the count in Wicklow.

Roche had requested a full recount earlier, claiming that the size of the ballot had confused some voters.

Twenty-four candidates appeared on the ballot, laid out in two columns, and up to 2,500 disputed ballot papers were expected to be scrutinised by the candidates’ agents this afternoon.

However, shortly after his elimination was confirmed this evening, Roche’s campaign spokesperson said they were keeping their options open, which suggests that a further challenge to the Wicklow count isn’t completely off the cards.

Counting continues in Wicklow this evening into the 14th count, where the constituency’s five seats remain unfilled.

Meanwhile, counting also continues at Galway West and Laois-Offaly. Overall, 12 Dáil seats have yet to be filled.
