Here's why an artist has added period stains on the dresses of some Disney princesses

‘Girls get their period. Sometimes it gets messy. Get over it.’

AN ARTIST HAS created a series of illustrations of Disney princesses with period stains on their dresses to fight period shaming.

Saint Hoax is a Middle Eastern artist, his website states that he creates “beautiful visual lies that tell an ugly truth”.

Describing his inspiration for the series, Hoax said, “A (girl) friend of mine went on a date two weeks ago. Halfway through dinner, she had a period leak that left a bloodstain on her skirt.

“Her date didn’t handle the situation well; she could tell he was uncomfortable. As the night came to an end, he said he would call her the next day…

After not hearing back from him, she was convinced he was revolted by the accident. She sent him an apologetic text message. He replied, “How can I date a girl who doesn’t know what a Tampon is?” These blooded Disney princesses are my reaction to her story.

“There’s a lot of ignorance and shame surrounding this subject. The fact that she felt the need to apologize for something so natural is more appalling than a period stain.

Girls get their period once a month. Sometimes it gets messy. Get over it.

The images have been liked by thousands of people on the artists Instagram page.

The artist told Mashable, “Girls should never be apologetic about this; it’s completely natural. Would anyone apologize for a nosebleed?

Some people might find these images disturbing. I think the fact that my friend had to apologize for having a period leak is more disturbing.

“I’m hoping people can start discussing this subject more freely without considering it as a ‘taboo’.”
