A CAR SALESMAN has been convicted for misleading customers in relation to the sale of crashed cars and for supplying a dangerous product.
Brian Fassnidge was convicted of four offences under consumer protection legislation at Dublin District Court yesterday. The charges relate to two separate vehicles he sold at Motorcity Naas Road in Dublin 22.
The National Consumer Agency said it was its first conviction under the General Product Safety Directive relating to the sale of a dangerous product.
“It is an offence for any trader to providing false or misleading information in relation to a vehicle’s history or to sell a dangerous product to a consumer,” explained CEO of the Agency, Karen O’Leary.
“By engaging in this behaviour, traders are not only breaking the law, they are putting consumers’ lives at risk. As today’s case shows we will use our powers to challenge and take enforcement action against anyone who attempts to mislead and defraud consumers in this way.
“When car dealers provide false information to consumers it can be both dangerous and expensive for the buyer. Without all the information about a car’s history, a consumer can’t judge the real condition of the car.”
Fassnidge will be sentenced on 8 December this year.

@Stephen Coveney: Dailymail there meant to say neutron radiation not UV but UV would be dangerous but not as bad as the gamma and X Ray radiation there.
