Fancy winning tickets to a pet event? Your dog will thank you!

Allianz are throwing an event especially for you and your furry best friend – find out how you can come along.

IF YOU’RE A dog owner, you know that showing them the time of their lives is always the goal. Well, we’re throwing an event for you and your furry best friend to enjoy.

Allianz and Journal Media are teaming up to host a pet event in association with the DSPCA. The Allianz Rewards Pet Event is an exclusive event for Allianz customers and their dogs, but we have some tickets to give away.

Taking place on Saturday, June 8 (this coming weekend), in the DSPCA HQ in Rathfarnham, the event promises to be a paradise for dogs. Expect a fabulous day out in the sun (hopefully), with endless fun-filled activities catered to our furry best friends.

This is a free event for Allianz customers and is invite only. Fortunately, we have tickets to give away to some lucky readers! Before we tell you how you can come along, let’s preview the day for those lucky enough to be in attendance.

There will be a morning and afternoon session of the event to allow as many pets and pet owners as possible to enjoy the experience.

Arriving at the DSPCA, there’s ample parking at the main entrance if you’re taking the car. The DSPCA is serviced by the Dublin Bus routes 15b and 161 if you’d prefer public transport. The nearest stop is only a 15 minute walk away. Once you’re all checked in, it’s time to enjoy everything on offer.

There is some structure for the day, but also time for play too. Your dog can enjoy some free play time with the other furry guests in a designated play area.

With so many pawsome pets to meet, it’s a great chance for your dog to socialise. There’ll also be an agility course to test your dog’s dexterity and a treasure hunt that those with kids in particular are encouraged to take part in.

After free play, the first of the talks will kick off. Our first chat will be led by dog trainers and DSPCA staff. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to ask all the questions you might have about training your dog. The talk will include demonstrations, so you’ll definitely learn something new.

Similarly, the second talk will be all about pet nutrition. You’ll hear some tips and tricks for feeding your dog and ensuring they get the right nutrients in their diet to be happy, healthy and carefree. There’ll also be a planned storytime for the kids in attendance.

Guests will have plenty of time to explore the amazing DSPCA facility, as well as sample all the wonderful food on offer – for pets and humans alike, with some food vouchers available on the day. DSPCA’s onsite café, the aptly named Ruff Café, as well as Bob’s Pizza, a stunning pizza van that makes delicious wood-fired pizzas right in front of your eyes.

Your caffeine needs will be covered by the lovely people at the Daily Grind van, with hot chocolates and teas available too. Should the weather be as nice as we hope, you can cool down with an ice cream from Lorraine’s ice cream van.

After treating yourself, you can treat your pet too. Bon a Pet Treats has some simply divine goodies that your dog will demolish. From dognutz to pupcakes, dogs will fill their bellies with these sweet goods.

If you’d prefer to spoil them in a different way, why not pamper them at one of the dog wash/groomers? Woof n Ready will be on-site to have them looking spick and span.

Also there on the day will be a number of options for the latest in dog accessories to purchase on the day. Pawssentials – Dog Accessories has everything you need to kit your pet out with handmade bits and bobs.

Some doggy medicine, in the form of Hemp Heroes and Sparkle Hearts eye care, will be on hand if you think your dog could do with an extra bit of care.

If you haven’t already got pet insurance sorted, Allianz will be setup on the day to give you all the details you need about their pet insurance product.

To top things off, you can even do a dog photoshoot! You’ll probably have thousands of pictures of your furry friend, but the pros at DogPhotography  can take it to the next level. The resulting images will take pride of place as your lock screen or on the mantelpiece at home. There’ll also be a photobooth on site free of charge for more casual snaps.

Back to the schedule on the day, a dog show will follow after the two talks. Five categories will be awarded, cutest puppy, golden oldie, best rescue, best crossbreed and junior handler. If you think your dog has what it takes to win, you can enter them into the category most suitable. Our team of judges will be on hand to reward the cream of the crop – has your dog got what it takes to bring home the blue ribbon?

Following on from the show, the DSPCA will put together a parade of all the pets currently in their care. These dogs are all up for adoption and need loving homes to go to. Donations can also be made on the day to the DSPCA for all their hard work they carry out ensuring animal welfare in Dublin.
