These dogs have been popping up all over Dublin today

The puppy promise campaign starts now.

puppypromise Twitter Twitter

ALL DAY, PEOPLE have been spotting these pups tied up around Dublin.

From the Luas above to the city streets, people were coming across the big puppies all over the place.

Some people were confused

These pups were everywhere

Getting up to all sorts

Why were they there though? Well, the Irish Dogs Trust has placed them around the city to raise awareness of a major problem every Christmas.

The Puppy Promise is their campaign to highlight the issue of people giving puppies as presents which results in hundreds of abandoned dogs every year.

As they explain, a puppy is for life not just for Christmas:

because well-intentioned people give puppies to loved ones as presents. It may seem like a wonderful idea at the time, but sadly, it doesn’t always work out. What starts as best wishes can end in many unhappy returns for these puppies.

The campaign is a heartbreaking reminder of the annual problem

You can sign the puppy promise here, and the Dogs Trust has explained why this is such a timely move:

You see, every November in the run-up to Christmas, there is a huge increase in the numbers of puppies advertised for sale both on and offline, which ultimately results in a spike in the number of unwanted and abandoned young dogs in January.

Do it for these little guys

Pointless just seeing the dogs without clear explanation of what they are. Did anybody realise just from the pictures what the message was? Great campaign but poor execution

    Gavin,
I’m fairly sure that’s the idea with these campaigns, peoples interest is piqued, they notice it, talk about it, post about it on Facebook or whatever, and the revealing ad campaign will probably follow.

…or just read it on the journal and then initiate a discussion about it. Seems you have fallen for their dastardly cunning plan.
