Over 3,000 domestic abuse victims helped by support commission last year

The Commission for the Support of Victims of Crime helped more than 15,000 people last year.

A NEW REPORT published today has shown that some 3,276 victims of domestic abuse were assisted by the Commission for the Support of Victims of Crime (CSVC) last year.

The commission allocated €1,154,139 to 50 voluntary sector orgaisations providing front-line services for the support of crime victims in 2012.

A total of 15,637 victims were assisted with this funding, an increase of 13 per cent compared to 2011.

The figure for domestic abuse victims seeking help rose by 4 per cent last year with 29 approved funding applications for support services, representing 39 per cent of the total funding allocation.

According to the report, there was a fall of 23 per cent in the number of sexual violence victims assisted by the commission with 862 victims being helped last year.

The commission funded child support services CARI and Barnardos last year with 76 child victims and their families receiving assistance from these organisations.

€59,100 of the total funding allocation was spend by five organisations which provided counselling services to 749 victims of crime.

There were 30,570 meetings or phone contacts with victims in the year, 467 volunteers and 26 full-time staff supported by the commission.

Speaking after the publication of the report, Minister Alan Shatter said that the organisations funded by the commission provide “an invaluable service”.

‘The motive for the attack is unclear’. The motive for this story is utterly OPAQUE. Why do you think this is news? It happened in January. In Eltham. In London. Why was this deemed relevant? Bizarre. Was he the relevant in the room?

D’ya think folks that maybe the Met Police may have asked media organisations in Ireland to publish the story in the belief that the perpetrator has a connection with Ireland and could be identified by someone in Ireland? Whadda’ya think..? Certainly not unknown for British publications to reciprocate….
